Cognitle Reader

Make your first reading document

A short guide to creating, sharing, and reading a portable HTML file.

1. Create your document

  1. Open the creator or choose a template.
  2. Paste content into the central editor.
  3. Open Document settings to set the title, optional author, content language, and input format.
  4. Choose starting reading preferences. Recipients can change these later.
  5. Select Download HTML and keep the file.

In the block Creator, use Hosted documents to connect an account, save privately to the server, or reopen saved work. You can enable autosave for the open hosted document. Failed saves preserve your edits and offer recovery actions. In My documents, owners and editors can use Revisions to preview and restore earlier versions. Local draft recovery and standalone HTML downloads remain available. Download a backup before closing the page. The current content limit is 150,000 characters.

2. Choose an input format

Text / Markdown: use simple markers for structure.

# Section heading

A paragraph with **bold** and *italic*.

1. A numbered step

[Jump to a section](#section-heading)

> A quotation or callout

Fenced code blocks are supported. This is a basic Markdown subset; use HTML input for tables.

HTML: paste HTML source. The creator rebuilds supported headings, paragraphs, lists, emphasis, links, code, and tables. It removes scripts, forms, author styles, images, and embedded media.

Content language: identifies the language for pronunciation and assistive technology. Arabic also changes text direction. It does not translate the document or the English reader interface.

3. Share and open the file

Share the downloaded .html file as an attachment or through your usual file-sharing service. Recipients should download it and open it in a browser, rather than rely on an attachment preview.

Opening local HTML varies by phone and app. If the preview does not show the controls, save the file and use a browser capable of opening local HTML. A desktop browser is another option. Never ask a recipient to disable browser security settings.

The text and controls work without network dependencies. External website links still need a connection. Anyone with the file can read, copy, or forward its contents.

4. Find a comfortable reading setup

Use Reset to document defaults if a colour or spacing choice becomes uncomfortable. Preferences are remembered where browser storage allows; local-file storage behaviour can vary.

Troubleshooting

The preview says there is no readable content

Paste text or supported HTML. An input containing only an image, script, or unsupported embed has nothing the reader can keep.

The preview does not match my latest input

Wait briefly after typing. If a preview error appears, resolve it before downloading. Empty or invalid content replaces the earlier preview with an explanation.

A link does not open inside the creator preview

The preview is isolated for safety. Test external links in the downloaded reader. They open only when selected.

I cannot find part of a document

Switch to Continuous reading and use the contents list. If visual pages are difficult on your device, Reading sections is another option.

Can I import PDF, Word, images, or audio?

These imports are not included in v0.1. Paste text from your source or provide supported HTML. Check copied content before sharing.

Import and update an existing reader

Choose Import document in the creator to open an HTML or Cognitle JSON file. Cognitle rebuilds supported content without running imported scripts. Current-format documents retain their identity; legacy HTML receives a new one. A changed export increments the revision. Keep heading ID markers when renaming or moving sections to preserve links.

Document versions and drafts includes Save as new document, editable JSON export, and optional browser draft storage. Interactive blocks supports expandable explanations and practice quizzes. Offline images and font lets you bundle supported local files you have permission to share.

Giving useful feedback

When reporting a problem to support@cognitle.com, include the browser, device, reading mode, the action that failed, and a small non-sensitive example. Do not include private document content unless it is necessary and you intend to share it.
